I wrote the main melody for this piece at the beautiful Kasjuni Bay, west of Split in Croatia. Picture the scene: a little bay surrounded by hills, the Adriatic Sea and Croatian islands, with only the sound of the sea lapping at the beach. The melody came to me and I hummed it into my mobile phone to make sure I didn't lose it! I planned to work up a more complex piece, but in the end I loved the simplicity of the melody and opted to form a short simple piece around it.

I originally wrote this for a full youth brass band (also available on SMP), this is a brass quintet version. I think the gentle simplicity of the piece works.
