Product Description

Based on a theme from Yandell's orchestral work:  "Overture of the Rockies", this piece uses the image of waking up to new day as a symbol of rebirth. With the both apprehensive and majestic feelings of being given a new purpose, a new understanding, and a new life, one is left awestruck with wonder.

This is a short work, idiomatically composed for the horn, and blending well with the vibrant organ accompaniment. A beautiful, emotionally-moving composition, with a sacred feeling, it is also very accessible to audiences. This piece works well as a duet for advanced high school or college students, but is also appealing to professional musicians. Programmatically, this work functions well as a short work on a classical concert as well as a prelude or special music moment in a church setting.

This piece was first performed on January 21, 2017, by Kurt Heichelheim (horn) and Cheryl Young (organ), at the Desire for the Sacred concert presented by Cascadia Composers, a chapter of the National Association of Composers, USA. at Agnes Flanagan Chapel, Lewis & Clark College, Portland, OR.
