Product Description
Mégétal is a duo for Alto Saxophone and Marimba. 1st prize in the 2019 Hélianthe composition competition.
Indeed, the creation of this was an opportunity to collaborate with ceramist Patrick Audevard.
"Mégétal" takes its source from the idea of merging the raw materials composing the saxophone and the marimba, "the Metal" and the "Vegetal". Indeed, the saxophone is composed of a tiny part of plant which is essential for the production of sound, the reed and the cork. Then, the marimba requires a multitude of metallic resonators to diffuse the sound of its wooden blades. Associated with the marimba, the Chinese cymbal will balance and punctuate the dialogue with the saxophone. The latter will be responsible for unifying the two instruments thanks to the gong (Tam-tam), symbol of unity in the yogic tradition.
For the writing of this piece, I was inspired by the work of my friend Patrick Audevard, ceramic artist, who developed the assembly of materials. So I naturally called on him to interpret and develop a work "Totem" to stage "Mégétal" recalling this meeting between wood and metal.
