The dog needs to go outside...he paces at the door...it looks like an emergency...the door opens and....RABBIT!!

The SCURRY! is on. Dog chases rabbit!  Their feet are scampering, twisting and turning to out-maneuver one another for fifty yards or more until the bunny finds hiding under a row of evergreens. The dog paces back and forth, searching and sniffing. Slowly he peaks down...the rabbit is close...and...POP! They're off again!  Quickly to the shed to a little hole where the rabbit quickly disappears under the structure, slamming nature's door behind him. The SCURRY! is over almost as soon as it's begun.

SCURRY! is a short concert opener and should be played on the verge of losing all control in one minute or less. While most of the sixteenth note runs are indicated with slurs, care must be taken to make sure that these notes "scamper" cleanly and tightly between all players. It is recommend that Woodwinds practice these notes tongued as an ensemble to hear the rhythmic precision required, or perhaps even sit in a circle and focus on hearing the unison sound of clicking keys without playing. The brass double tonguing should also be strong and crescendo throughout. Make every effort to bring out the percussion as those parts add crispness to the energy of the piece and character to the humorous scene it detects.
