Inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous saying that includes the eloquent phrase "the fierce urgency of now". Some years ago I was moved to compose a song entitled "Peace" (available here on SheetMusicPlus.) It was in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi, whose nonviolent civil disobedience in colonial India ended in its independence from Great Britain and moved MLK to emulate him in the USA South on behalf of the civil rights for all African-Americans. I have subtitled my piece "Impromptu in B Flat Minor": it has an incessant, almost fierce, undercurrent of repeated notes in the left hand, leading to a contemplative midsection of peace and queitude. Not for long, because It soon returns to the urgency of now.
