Buzzards In Love is an extended piece for concert band that draws upon many influences including jazz, classical, and tango. It tells a story about two buzzards finding each other. This piece is a way for concert band and jazz band musicians to join forces in a performance with a spirit of fun and adventure. The score has two sections where improvisation is used. The Roadkill Interlude section is an open space for anything that is creative and fun to happen. Ideally, it is different for each performance.
INSTRUMENTATION: 4 flutes, alto flute, oboe, bassoon, 3 clarinets, bass clarinet, 2 alto saxophones, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, 4 trumpets, 3 french horns, 3 trombones, baritone horn, tuba.

PERFORMANCE: Besides being for concert band, this piece can be performed by a large jazz ensemble with additional woodwinds and brass. Percussion is not used in the notated sections of the score. The focus of the music is entirely on wind instruments.
