Serenade in G, referred to by Mozart in his shorthand notes as Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (literally "A Little Night Music", i.e.
"A Short Nocturne") continues to be one of Mozart's most recognizable and loved compositions to this day. Composed in 1787 for two violins, viola,
cello, and double bass, the numbers of each instrument would have been multiplied depending on their availability and desirability for each occasion.
The title reveals that it was likely intended to be performed at night for after-dinner entertainment.
This arrangement for two pianos of the first movement Allegro captures every note and register of Mozart's original strings scoring,
with nothing added. What makes this piano duo all the more fun and interesting for piano students and professionals alike is the antiphonal conversation between the two pianos, and the uncompromised repeated 16th-notes, so characteristic
of the string family, distributed between the pianos as a displaced 8ths effect.
I hope you find plenty of enjoyment in learning and playing this arrangement of one of the happiest compositions by one of the greatest composers in history.
