Product Description

This piece is one of a series of compositions for brass quartet (two trumpets, horn, tuba/euphonium).  The Nettleton Prelude is based on the Nettleton hymn tune, and was written for use as a prelude on a festival Sunday.  It features a bold, recurring fanfare, flashy accompaniment parts in the trumpets (yes, the trumpets have to take their turn at NOT playing the melody :) ), an opportunity for every instrument to get the melody, and lots of really choice suspensions that give the piece a bit of a neo-Baroque feel.  It is of moderate difficulty because of the running parts in the trumpets and the fact that the tuba covers a fairly wide range.  It can be played by a student ensemble--when this piece was premiered, two of my players were 14 years old.  Please feel free to contact me!  michael.ropp@ieee.org
