Product Description
By Mike Strand, ASCAP
This is a lead sheet for a bossa nova, with chord symbols and guitar fret boards, for a jazz or Latin ensemble. Therefore, it is the foundation for a variety of arrangements, contra facts and improvisations within the bossa nova style of music that came out of Brazil.
The audio sample is an iReal Pro jazz bossa nova accompaniment, combined with a Finale PrintMusic melody -- a quartet ensemble.
The overall structure and mood of this piece are similar to those of the great bossa nova by Luiz Bonfá, Black Orpheus (Manhā de Carnaval). My composition and Bonfá's differ a lot in melody and harmony, however.
The title refers to the environmental challenges to the Amazon rain forest basin, especially from fires caused by human projects or carelessness. For some listeners, the music may evoke the uncertainty, sadness, or even tragedy associated with the degradation of the Amazon jungle.
In short, Rain Forest Fire portrays the unresolved tension between human beings and Mother Earth.
Thanks to Anders Lundegård, who reviewed an earlier version of this piece and made suggestions. He is a virtuoso saxophone player, both classical and jazz music, and has several albums and compositions to his name.
