While the pedal is held down for the entire first section, the left hand plays occasional quarter notes that give the impression of pinpoints of stars. The melody is then passed between the hands, which means it needs to be heard clearly (but not too loudly) As the arrangement continues to grow into fullness, difficulty, and glory, it comes back the calm of the beginning and ends in a ethereal repose.
