For between 2 and 6 flutes, or flute + multi-track tape, or flute + delays, or any combination of the former (could also be played with other instruments with a similar range to the flute) Clock Can(On) is dizzyingly hypnotic and captivating. It moves beyond the limited harmonic usage of early process minimalist works (Steve Reichs phase pieces for instance), while maintaining the idea of an unadulterated process. As well as a shifting rhythmic structure, Clock (Can)On moves progressively up the harmonic series, becoming increasingly interesting and harmonically complex. Performance notes: Because of the multiple entries, precision is key in this work. It will take some practice and stamina to maintain a steady tempo. Primarily for this reason this piece should be considered challenging to play. Dynamics marked are generally only indicative of how a performer might play intuitively (I.E. Lower notes soft, high notes loud). Length: 8:50 minutes
