How Sweet Is the Torment, is a 2022 setting of Monteverdis Baroque aria Sì dolce èl tormento which was published in 1624.  Its strophic composition made it immediately catchy and its original lyrics by Carlo Milanuzzi, conveys a very familiar topic: the sweet torment of a broken heart. This song carries the subtitle: Recitar cantando, that new style of singing that imitates the inflections of the spoken text.  Text (and elocution) is/are important.  The text has been updated and put in the vernacular (English) of/by the arranger. This aria is arranged for a 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment.  Performance time: 4:35+-
