In Aleluya (Hareruya) I have tried to recapture an endearing tradition I observed in Shona-speaking Gospel churches around Zimbabwe. The spirit of exhilaration, that special moment of optimal joy and total abandon in the worship of God, for his perfect son, Jesus, the Christ. It is an acclamation of Gods unconditional love, celebrating the birth, life, passion and resurrection of Jesus. Such celebration usually would be complete with the mystical sounds of the mbira thumb piano for which Zimbabwes musical contribution has become legendary. In fact, pitching the piece in the key of F# enables the accompanist to reinforce that tactile effect of the mbira.
