Product Description
This is an arrangement for TTBB male choir of the beautiful old English carol "God rest you merry Gentlemen". The first two verses are harmonized in a more or less traditional way, which allows the male choir sound to unfold its typical warm and somehow "archaic" sound.
In opposition to that, the third verse is composed in a polythonic way: the melody in this verse is sung by the two bass voices in unison, while the two tenor voices follow them one after another in a short distance. This canon-like composition underlines the lyrics, which speak of the shepherds leaving their flock behind and hasting towards the new-born child.
The last verse begins with all the voices singing in an octave unison, creating a majestic sound.
