"A musical struggle between light and darkness, good and evil"
Chiaroscuro is an artistic technique, developed during the Renaissance, that uses strong tonal contrasts between light and dark to model three-dimensional forms. The clash between light and darkness, good and evil, buries strong archetypal associations that have effectively shaped the course of humanity over the centuries. This spiritual struggle, still very much alive today, has been the source of inspiration for this work.
The piece is dedicated to the composer's brother, and best friend, George Antoniades.
Chiaroscuro received its premiere on February 23rd, 2018 at the historic Riverside Church in New York City, under the baton of Portland Opera music director, George Manahan. It has since been recorded by the National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Greece and is regularly broadcasted on Greek National Radio.
