"ProtoGroove" 3 Movements piece for two solo tubas, large brass ensemble and jazz drum set. About 9 minutes, dificult.
Very energic first and third movements, soft jazzy ballad on the second. For professional ensemble or advanced students.
Full instrumentation: Tuba Solo 1 & 2; Piccolo Trumpet in Bb; Trumpet 1 & 2 in Bb; Flugelhorn; Horn 1, 2, 3 & 4 in F; Euphonium; Tenor Trombone 1, 2 & 3; Bass Trombone; Contrabass Trombone; Drum Set (Jazz, 1 player) Bass Drum, Floor Tom-Tom, Low Tom-Tom, Snare Drum, Hi-Hat, Ride, Crash & Cowbell.
Composed for the Tuba player Sérgio Carolino, to first performance in January 2017 with Sérgio Carolino and Ron Nimrod (tubas) and the "Massive Brass Attack!" brass ensemble, under the direction of Hugo Assunção.
The work uses some resources of the jazz language, in fusion with other aesthetics. It is divided into three movements, symbolizing the human handling of prehistoric resources:
-Paleolithic - Chipping Stone.
-Mesolithic - Domination of fire, confort and cooked food.
