This 19th century tune has been recorded by many artists and employed for rather dark humour settings, songs of rebellion and even US Presidential campaigns.This melody evoked in me the complex feelings of those who chose to uproot themselves from their homes to venture into new, often hostile, and challenging territory to establish a new life for themselves and their decendents. AKA Old Rosin the Beau, The Men of the West, Kelly's Irish Brigade and Lincoln and Liberty - for Abraham Lincoln's Presidential campaign.
