This is a set of three folk song, recomposed to suit me.
Ive always loved old folk songs. Not necessarily like My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, or The Farmer in the
Dell. Im talking about those haunting, Appalachian tunes that were largely imported from England, Scotland
and Ireland.
When the challenge came to me recently to arrange a folk song, I immediately got my spring energy and
launched into Black is the Color of My True Loves Hair. That has been a favorite for my wife and me for years.
I remember singing in a four-part mens arrangement of that song, and it was stunning. I wanted to do
something just as stunning, but for piano solo. The other two folk songs make out a set of love songs and one song of war.
Each of the pieces in this suite (I Gave My Love a Cherry, When Johnnie Comes Marching Home, & Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair) are available individually, sold under their respective titles, and each has a corresponding MP3.
