Lyrics

No greater gift could we crown thee with
Than flowers of the field that blossom in May
and no finer thing for our Mother made Queen
than beauty now grown from the seeds small faith

[refrain]
Mary, Mary, Mother of God,
Mary, Queen of our hearts,

When you were hailed by the Angels request,
You gave your whole self,
when you gave him your "yes"
Making answer in faith to Gods faithfulness
You bore to the world Gods Word made flesh

You saw Him led as a Lamb to be slain,
Though pierced through your soul,
at His side you remained
Now that Hes risen and Hes conquered the grave
You share now His glory, who shared His pain,

Details: May is the month of Mary, with special devotions having been especially promulgated in the 19th century by Jesuit colleges in order to combat immorality. The May Crowning has become an especially popular ceremony, during which hymns or special songs are sung while a wreath of flowers is placed on the head of a statue of Mary. The crowning honors Mary as the Queen of Heaven, since she is the mother of Christ the King.

During these devotions which make use of a statue to honor the Holy Mother of God, Catholics must always heed the teaching of the church: "Images are venerated not because of a belief that these images themselves possess anything of divinity or power, but because the honor shown them is directed to the prototypes they represent." (Council of Trent). Indeed, honor should always be shown to Jesus Blessed Mother, as the Gospel says, "all generations shall call [her] blessed."
