Product Description

Contemporary Classical, solo piano piece for Grade 4-5 intermediate/advanced players.

Detour is a lively piece in the key of D major. The Left hand harmony is based on the primary chords of the key and the piece uses rhythmic interplay between the hands to create interesting patterns and a feeling of forward motion.

Key Techniques

Rhythmic co-ordination and syncopation

8th note broken chords

Melody utilising intervals of a sixth

Composer Tips

Practise the syncopated rhythms from bar nine onwards by first tapping them out.

Play with a light touch and a loose wrist in both hands.

Make sure to observe the dynamic markings as these add contrast to the melodic repeats.

Detour is suitable for home performance, practice pieces, ABRSM, RSL grade support pieces, professional performance, school and student learning.
