Product Description

These eight songs date from both earlier in my life and December 2020. The first two originally date from 1995 and are settings of my favourite poet Emily Dickinson. 'Because I could not stop for death' is one of her best known poems but 'After a hundred years' is not as well known - both settings were revised slightly in November 2020. 'Sure on this Shining Night' to words by James Agee, dates from 1994 and I've only made very minor revisions. 'To my Dear & Loving Husband' was originally composed in 1986 & sets a poem by the remarkable 17th century poet Anne Bradstreet. The song has been heavily revised in early December 2020, most notably the piano part, the vocal line is largely unchanged from the 1986 original. 'Dream Variations' was completed in December 2020 and sets a poem by one of the leaders of the 'Harlem Renaissance' - Langston Hughes. 'Music I heard' was completed on 18/12/2020 and sets Conrad Aiken's best known poem. 'Dream within a Dream' completed on 21/12/20 sets one of Edgar Allan Poe's thought provoking poems. The final song in the Cycle, sets a poem by the Canadian Native American - Chief Dan George and was completed on 27/12/20.
