It tells the story of the Crucifixion of Jesus and can be linked to the suffering of slaves throughout history. There's a vivid connection between the cross and the lynching tree.

About the composer: Brenda Dillon is best known for her contributions to the Recreational Music Making movement. She also presents group piano and RMM sessions throughout the U.S. As well as serving as a teacher trainer, she has written extensive articles on both group piano and RMM teaching.
