CANON IN D

by Johann Pachelbel

Intermediate Piano Solo

Arranged by ROBERT VAN HORNE

9 Pages

Johann Pachelbel's CANON IN D was written sometime between the years 1680 to 1706, over three hundred years ago.

The instrumentation during this time was three violins and basso continuo.

Today, there are many arrangements of this beautiful piece, many of which are performed at weddings and special occasions.

Here is an original intermediate piano solo arrangement of this work.

I recorded this arrangement of the CANON IN D in 2002 on an album entitled "RHAPSODY / Timeless Favorites."

The audio sample on the album has accompanied orchestral instrumentation and is not included in the sheet music.

This arrangement of the CANON IN D incorporates my own impressions, stylings and interpretations of this extraordinary and familiar work.

There are twenty variations of the repeated chord progressions, many having scale-like patterns in the right hand.

The score is clearly and carefully notated with dynamic marks, phrasing, pedal indications, suggested fingerings and appropriate musical terms for playing.

This arrangement makes an excellent piece for students and teachers as well as professional pianists.
