Product Description
Trumpet and organ makes for a powerful combination. The shape note tune Vernon supports it well.
This can be performed as special music in a church service, especially to accompany the story of Jacob wrestling the Angel at Peniel. It may also be performed as a recital piece.
Jeremiah Ingalls, who composed the tune, was a poster boy for the Colonial tradition of eking out a living. At various times he worked as choirmaster, bass viol player, bartender, cooper, publisher, deacon, farmer and as a composer of what is now called the First New England School (which included William Billings). Three hundred years later he might also have driven a school bus.
