The Morning Hymn is a contrapuntal piece that involves the retrograde arrangement of the hymn. The middle part of the piece is written in the scalar manner, resembling the church bells ringing; the final section is a repeat of the opening one. The aim of the work is to prepare students for the study of Bach's fugues and other contrapuntal works in their latter years of piano study.
