Equinox by saxophonist John Coltrane is a minor blues with a haunting melody that has tremendous
expression for such a simple tune. This arrangement for younger players features Flute Quartet
(Three C Flutes and Alto) with rhythm section. It has been moved to C minor, and gives the melody
a fresh coat of Afro-Cuban 6/8 feel with upper flutes and piano creating a rhythmic
accompaniment for the melody in the lower flutes and bass guitar. The groove then switches
to swing for solos over C minor blues for all players, and after solos there is a one chorus
tribute to another famous minor blues head. All rhythm section parts are notated, including
piano voicings, bass lines, and Afro-Cuban drum diagrams. An easier minor blues with
a 6/8 twist!
