Product Description
Amapola (Pretty Little Poppy) was first published in 1924, and was a #1 hit in 1941 for the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra with vocals by Helen O'Connell and Bob Eberly. Also recorded by Tito Schipa in the 1920's, Jan Peerce in the 1950's, then by Andrea Bocelli and Paul Potts.
This cover is from the version sung by Deanna Durbin in the film "First Love" - recorded February 28, 1940 - written by Joseph LaCalle and Albert Gamse.
This is quite a special cover: an intimate reinterpretation for solo piano, this version conceived by Filippi destructures the phrases' temporal development on many points. Then, presenting expressive dynamics, the whole arrangement offers an interpretation opposite to what we normally find in commercial music.
