My musical odyssey commenced with the humble recorder, a rite of passage for many musicians, which naturally progressed into a passion for brass instruments—first the trumpet and eventually the trombone.

Enlisting in the Army at the tender age of 15, I swiftly ascended the ranks as a trombone virtuoso within the Junior Army Service, culminating in advanced studies at London’s prestigious Kneller Hall. It was in this esteemed institution that I delved into the realms of theory and composition, igniting a lifelong pursuit of mastery over wind and brass instruments. My passion for music extended beyond the classroom, often found in the vibrant company of fellow musicians, both in and out of bars.

In 1973, my talents led me to The Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars band, where I proudly served as the Solo Trombone player for nine years. During this tenure, I ventured into arranging and composing, marking a milestone with my arrangement of ‘The Godfather’ theme being broadcast on German national radio.

Fortune smiled upon me, allowing the honing of my trombone skills even further during this period.

Upon departing from the Army in 1981, my musical prowess found a home in various theatre pits along the south coast, contributing to an eclectic array of ensembles—from big bands and jazz groups to brass assemblies, orchestras, German bands, and even recorder consorts.

Eventually, I embraced the role of an educator at Thorngrove School, where I had the privilege of crafting bespoke arrangements for soloists, ensembles, and theatrical productions.

Though now retired from teaching, my dedication to music remains undiminished. As the musical director of The Andover Light Orchestra, I continue to weave my creative tapestry, arranging and composing with fervour. 

The fruits of my labour, showcased on Arrange Me, have resonated across the globe, reaching audiences in the USA, Mexico, Canada, China, and beyond—a testament to the universal language of music.
