Neil Freebern
Neil Freebern is a conductor, educator, trumpet performer, composer, and arranger. He currently conducts the Williams College Brass Ensemble, is the principal trumpet with the Sage City Symphony, and performs with a contemporary "looping duo" throughout New England. In the summer, he conducts and arranges for the Washington County Band in upstate New York. As the owner of Soundwork Productions, he specializes in music production, mixing, mastering, arranging, and composition (www.soundworkproductions.com).
With over 30 years of experience as a music educator, Neil is known for his creative arrangements, innovative performances, and leadership. His career includes roles as Director of Creative Arts at Burr and Burton Academy, Conductor of the Williams College Wind Ensemble, Director of the Eagles Band in Pittsfield, MA, and Director of Bands in Central Berkshire and Moffat County School Districts. In the late '90s, he conducted the United States Youth Wind Ensemble on European tours.
Neil has also taught trumpet and audio production as an adjunct professor at Castleton University and Keene State College. His accolades include the Global Music Award for Best Music in a Short Film, Vermont's SBO 50 Directors That Make a Difference Award, the YALE Distinguished Educator Award, and recognition as a Grammy Music Educator Quarterfinalist.
