Oscar Alcantara has been directing choral ensembles for over 40 years, as Music Director of the Harvard-Radcliffe
Veritones, Director of Chicago’s
Lakeshore Jive, Interim Conductor of the
Youth Choral Theater of Chicago, and currently as Music Director of The
Sheridan Singers. His vocal arrangements have been performed by dozens of ensembles across the country, including The University of
Michigan Men's Glee Club; The
Harvard Glee Club Lite; The Kenyon
Kokosingers;
Jersey Transit; and San Francisco’s
Halfway to Midnight.
Oscar has been heavily involved in musical theater productions, including as librettist and lyricist for the
Hasty Pudding Theatricals. His collaboration on the book and lyrics for the Pudding production,
Saint Misbehavin' (1988), was recognized with the First Place Award for University Musicals by Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI). Oscar has served on the boards of the
American A Cappella Alliance and the Youth Choral Theater of Chicago.
Oscar has served as counsel to the
Fender Museum of the Arts Foundation, Chicago’s
Protégé Philharmonic, and the
Alyo Children’s Dance Theatre. He has testified before the Illinois State Senate as an expert on artists’ rights. Oscar is a voting member of the National Academy for the Recording Arts and Sciences (the Grammy Association).
