Danny McGarry

Daniel (Danny) McGarry is a 24 year-old Aerospace Engineering graduate student, and semi-professional pianist with degrees in Music Performance (Piano) and Physics from Albion College, and Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech.

Born in Michigan, he began taking piano lessons at the age of 6. Soon after, he found and fostered his natural passion and inclination toward music and began competing in local, regional, and state-level competitions. In highschool, he continued to find success competing and winnning national awards in Classical and Jazz competitions, and performing at live events. Starting at the age of 15, he began working with music faculty at Albion College, where he went on to study and obtain a B.A. in Music Performance. While at Albion, he distinguished himself both academically and musically as a solo performer, and in the Concert Choir and Jazz Collective ensembles. During this time, he also began experimenting with writing his own compositions and arrangements for piano solo and chamber music groups. In 2022, he graduated Summa Cum Laude while double-majoring in Music Performance and Physics, and was inducted into the Epsilon Mu Chapter of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Honors Society in Music. Later that year, he then transferred to Virginia Tech where he acquired his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, and is currently progressing towards his M.S. similarly.

Daniel is known for his superior capability in arranging advanced and virtuosic-level piano solos and piano duets due to his own history of virtuosic playing capabilities, and his high level of knowledge about the instrument. He particularly enjoys arranging music from various film scores, with his favorite modern composers being John Powell, Hans Zimmer, Justin Hurwitz, and Henry Jackman. In the future, he hopes to compose pieces for wider varieties of instrumentation such as orchestra and symphony band, eventually progressing towards composing film scores of his own.
