Notes are fine; notation of the rhythms is terrible

This arrangement served its purpose for us: it provided the lyrics and a harmony line. But for anyone who doesn't already know the song, learning it from the arrangement, without turning to the Indigo Girls' recordings for guidance, would be WAY harder than it should be because of the impenetrable notation of the song's many syncopated rhythms. The photo shows just one example from the arrangement (measure 11), compared with a more standard notation that makes it easy to see where the beats fall. I've never seen such poor notation.
