Kourtnee Kirk

Hello!

My name is Kourtnee Kirk, and I am the 5th-12th grade choral director at The Independent School in Wichita, KS. Originally from Edmond, Oklahoma, I have been immersed in music my entire life, thanks to a musically gifted family. My passion for choral music was ignited when I sang in the Oklahoma All-State Treble Choir under the renowned Dr. André Thomas, whose mentorship deepened my love for music education.  

In high school, my choral director, Greg Johnson, recognized my talent for composition and gave me the incredible opportunity to have my first piece, Last Memories, premiered at my graduation. This experience set me on a path to explore composition and arranging as a means of artistic expression.  

I went on to earn my Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Wichita State University, where I had the privilege of working under Dr. Ryan Beeken. During my senior year, the University Chorale premiered my second piece, All As One, which earned first place in the Exhibition and Performance category at the Undergraduate Research and Activity Forum. I've also arranged music for the university’s competitive a cappella group and madrigal ensemble and composed a vocal solo, April Song, for my Senior Recital.  

As a composer and arranger, I strive to create music that resonates deeply with performers and audiences alike. My latest work, Dream, was written with the hope of bringing peace and serenity to those who experience it. In addition to composing, I am a Christian artist, using my faith to inspire and uplift others through music.  

I am grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for music—whether in the classroom, on the stage, or through my compositions.
