Product Description

Yesterday was released by the English rock band The Beatles, appearing on their album Help! in 1965. The song is a melancholy ballad sung by Paul McCartney accompanied by an acoustic guitar and a string quartet. The lyrics describe a persons longing for the past after the breakup of a relationship. According to McCartneys biographers, the melody came to McCartney in a dream, but it took several months for McCartney and John Lennon to complete the lyrics to their satisfaction. Yesterday became extremely popular and remains one of the most recorded songs in the history of popular music, with over 2,000 covers.

This is an arrangement for clarinet quartet. The melody remains in the Clarinet 1 part for most of the piece, while the other three parts accompany it. In the accompaniment lines, guitar strums are represented by repeated, syncopated eighth notes while the string quartet is represented by lyrical, harmonic phrases. Performers should be attentive to these moving lines and rhythms in addition to the Clarinet 1 melody.
