Product Description

This is the Composer's Autograph Manuscript Score of William Hawley's original set of Seven Madrigals, which was composed for the vocal ensemble Chanticleer, and given its World Premiere in the Herbst Theater, San Francisco, in 1986. Included are the Italian texts by Torquato Tasso (1544-1595), with English translations by the composer.

In 1996 the first six of the madrigals were published in the composer's revoicings, for SATB voices, by Hinshaw Music in separate octavos by title. That edition remains the current standard published set, under the collective title Six Madrigals.

This SMP Press offering consists of all of the seven madrigals in their original voicings (ATBarB) in manuscript, including the seventh, "Mentre angoscia e dolore", for triple choir, which was excluded from the Hinshaw edition for practical reasons. The included audio clip is the previously unreleased full live recording of the World Premiere performance. Total performance duration: ca. 20 minutes. ASCAP https://williamhawley.net
