The title Odyssey refers to the spiritual concept that human life is grounded in the soul and Life is but a journey whereby the soul returns to its origins in the world of the spiritual. The music is very modern yet distinctly thematic and richly harmonic. It is very sophisticated rhythmically and the harmonic language is very chromatic yet completely directional and anchored tonally. The writing for the solo violin is idiomatically challenging and the string orchestra accompaniment is an integrated partner in the whole concept.
