Nicolai von Wilm (1834-1911) was a German composer, pianist, and conductor. He was born in
Riga, Latvia, and studied at the Leipzig Conservatory. He had various conducting and
teaching positions in Riga, St. Petersburg, and latterly, Wiesbaden, where he died. He
wrote over 250 works, including many for piano students.
This piece is the ninth of his Ten Charakterstuecke (Character Pieces), op. 24, for piano.
Its sad and beautiful melody, coupled with effective keyboard writing, make this a work that
deserves to be heard again. It is an effective recital and repertoire selection, and it lies very well under the hand.
The editor has re-engraved the work and made some changes to the notation to conform to
current publishing style. No notes were changed or added. This is not an arrangement or
transcription.
This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
