Product Description

The Christian History Institute calls this ancient melody "The hymn born in a synagogue," because it incorporates the "Yigdal" Jewish melody that is used regularly in Jewish services.  David Abramsky's cello and piano arrangement is a solemn yet triumphant rendition that stirs the Christian soul.  Interestingly, at one point, the piano is allowed to carry the melody forward, while the cello accompanies on the deep, sonorous low cello strings.  Then, in a sweet drawn out crescendo, the cello retakes the melody and soars to a triumphant height in the unusual sub-dominant key.  The piece settles gently back in a solemn fashion, with long cello notes ending in the original tonic.
