Similar to W. A. Mozart's famous interpretation of the same text, this modern setting paints a quiet image of modest serenity. It also strives to capture the intimacy of the text's perspective; for instance the usage of miserere mei ("have mercy on me") rather than the more common miserere nobis ("have mercy on us") makes this prayer particuarly personal. What results is a musical setting that is uniquely and poignantly placed in emotional context, yet also struggling to remain pious and unassuming-much like this ancient prayer.
