Product Description

The 'Chief Niwot Rag' was originally written for a five-piano ensemble which was playing a concert in the small town of Niwot, Colorado, Chief Niwot was a member of the Southern Arapahoe tribe, and was an intelligent, principled man. He tried his best to bring his tribe into a working relationship with the white men who were increasing in numbers in what had been their tribal lands, including where the town of Niwot is located. Chief Niwot (his name means 'Left Hand' in the tribal language - since he was left-handed, that became his name) was a gifted linguist, fluent in English as well as in several tribal languages. Well, I digress..... This was written as a tribute to him. A recorder-playing friend of mine heard it one time, and encouraged me to make a recorder ensemble arrangement of it. She guided me through the ranges, etc., and then had a local recorder group perform it. This is the score only. Parts sold separately. "Back to School 2015"
