Rocky Road to Dublin - Arranged for four guitars by Dan Jones
"Rocky Road to Dublin" is a 19th-century Irish song.
It
tells of the trials and experiences of a young man as he travels to Liverpool
in England, via Dublin, from his rural home in Tuam, Ireland.
The
piece is a favourite instrumental in 9/8 time. It has the characteristics of a
slip jig, with five accents in the bar, on quavers 1,3,4,6 and7. These can be
heard in the first bar in guitar 1. In the sung version, the singer sings 1,
2, 3, 4, 5 to correspond with these.
This
arrangement balances the melodic interest across all four guitar parts. It is
suitable for intermediate/advanced players.
