Silent Night, by Franz Gruber, arranged by Tim Crooks for String Quartet.
This traditional German Christmas carol dates from the 19th Century and has received many settings over the years. This arrangement is straightforward to play and can be managed by intermediate level groups, with occasional forays into third position for all instruments. It can be performed as a string quartet, or alongside a compatible SATB choir arrangement, also available for download.
This download contains string quartet score and parts.
A string ensemble version of this arrangement is also available for download, with parts for double bass, piano, harp, glockenspiel and easy Violin / Viola / Cello.
About the arranger
Tim Crooks trained as a violinist and violist, working professionally in Manchester (UK) for many years. He was a founding member of the Manchester String Quartet and scored many arrangements for the group's recordings. Tim now orchestrates and conducts, working with orchestras including Manchester Camerata, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the Philharmonia.
