Product Description

This is a simple multiple part arrangement of the old English carol, "Coventry Carol", in the key of B minor, arranged for F# minor Native American style flute, along with mountain dulcimer and/or guitar back up chords and counter melody. I usually play the first time melody without drone, the second time melody with a B drone, and the final third time melody with a F# drone. The 'bridge", measures 19 - 25, played only by the back up mountain dulcimer and/or guitar, gives me time to change the drone from B to F#. The melody can be played alone on Native American style flute of any key. However, the introduction, back up chords and counter melody for mountain dulcimer and/or guitar would have to be transposed to an appropriate key if a Native American style flute is used that is not in the key of F# minor. The melody arrangement is written in Nakai tablature. R. Carlos Nakai developed this system of tablature notation (commonly known as Nakai tablature) that can be used across a wide variety of flute keys and tunings. He published this in The Art of the Native American Flute (1996) with James Demars, Ken Light and David P. McAllester. This provides resources and support for musicians playing the Native American flute.
