based on Isaiah 8-9 and Matthew 4.

Isaiah 8 ends and Isaiah 9 begins with the brutal Assyrian invasion and deportation of the northern 10 tribes of Israel (586 BC). Assyria was so effective in disrupting the nation, that we call the 10 northern tribes the lost tribes of Israel. God sent many prophets to warn the people that they were failing to keep their covenant with God and that judgment day was coming for the nation.

The tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali were located near the Sea of Galilee. They, like all the Northern people, would curse God on the day of darkness as they were killed or deported.

But Isaiah sees ahead to a time when Zebulun and Naphtali will be overcome with light and joy. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. This prophecy was fulfilled as Jesus healed and taught in the cities of ancient Zebulun and Naphtali.
