Three part choir arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple

Based on the public domain hymn by Fanny Crosby (poem) and Phoebe Knapp (melody)

Originally composed for choirs in Haiti, the choral version (in French) has been rearranged for piano solo. 3 versions (French SAB, English SAB, and piano solo) are represented on YouTube.

The premiere performance of this arrangement was directed by Enoch Firman at his church in Cap-Haïtien.

Fanny Crosby (who lived in the slums of Manhattan) was visiting her close friend at Knapp Mansion in Brooklyn. (Phoebe Knapp's husband, Joseph Fairchild Knapp, was founder of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.) Phoebe Knapp played a new tune she had just written several times for her friend Fanny Crosby. "What do you think the tune says?" Crosby replied, "Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine." Crosby then dictated the lyrics for Knapp to write down.
