Mascagni's opera Cavalleria Rusticana is considered one of the great masterpieces of the repertoire. It was first premiered in 1893 and since, has become one of the most popular and most performed operas in the repertoire. Often it is paired with Pagliacci by Leoncavallo in a so-called Cav/Pag double bill.
Vikentios Gionanidis has brilliantly arranged a 12-minute selection from the opera for 10-part Brass Ensemble with Percussion and Timpani suitable for advanced performers.
