Product Description

Pavanas & Canarios by Gaspar Sanz. Originally written for vihuela (the Renaissance / Baroque Spanish guitar) by the Spanish composer Gaspar Sanz the impact of rhythm and melody don't show on a soft guitar. But on 2 cellos they have an impact that the audience is till and stops breathing.
The first dance is Pavanas, the "peacock dance" in which the gentleman wore a helmet with a peacock feather to solemnly march in with his wife on the arm. Somehow stark, it creates an even stronger impression.
The second dance is the contrasting bouncing Canarios, a Gigue from the canary islands influenced by the more complex African rhythms, in particular a change between 6/8 and 3/4. The 2 cellos rival playing bouncing double stops sounding like a whole orchestra.
Here a performance of Canarios: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scVnkI5bXZ0
