This is a unique approach to the sax quartet genre. It is written as a solo with the other three saxes accompanying, but the solo can be played or shared by any of the four saxes. Each part includes the solo and the backing part. Inspired by Gato Barbieri's performance which was played on tenor but this great plaintive melody sounds equally effective on Soprano, Alto or Bari. The rhythms in the solo part are exact and therefore challenging and the performance really needs to include the bass and drums (parts included). But this will be a great crowd pleaser and well worth the preparation time.
