Product Description

Return Of The Blues: from Rhapsody In Blue- for big band/jazz ensemble arranged by John Hoesly. Based on a theme from Rhapsody In Blue by George Gershwin. Rhapsody In Blue is considered an American musical masterpiece.  Written by George Gershwin in 1924, right from its opening notes it conjures up The Jazz Age, The American Scene, New York City, and as Gershwin himself described, "national pep".  Return Of The Blues is known as the "ritornello" (Italian: return) theme as it appears seven times during RIB.  It is one of the more famous themes from RIB, being heard right after the clarinet glissando in the beginning of the piece.  Here, it is presented as a stand-alone tune.  It is written with a trumpet solo, but the solo can be played by any member of the band.  Difficulty level is intermediate and certainly playable by most high school jazz ensembles.  Lead Tpt Ab5.
