The Day of Resurrection is a highly playable overture for church orchestra that incorporates five memorable, joyful Easter hymns: The Day of Resurrection (ELLACOMBE),Come, Ye Faithful, Raise the Strain (ST. KEVIN), He is Risen, He is Risen (UNSER HERRSCHER), This Joyful Eastertide (VRUECHTEN), and Christ the Lord is Risen Today (EASTER HYMN).
Ideal as an Easter Sunday prelude, the overture includes parts for Flutes 1-2, Oboe, Bb Clarinet 1-2, Bassoon, Bb Trumpet 1-2, F Horn 1-2, Trombone 1-2, Bass Trombone/Tuba, Timpani, Snare Drum, Keyboard (Piano/Synth/Organ), Violin 1-2, Viola, Cello, and Contrabass, plus substitute parts: Bb Bass Clarinet sub for Bassoon, Bb Bass Clarinet sub for Bass Tbn./Tuba, Eb Alto Sax 1-2 sub for F Horn 1-2, and Eb Bari Sax sub for Bass Tbn./Tuba. The oboe part may be omitted, as it doubles Flute 1 at the octave, and the strings parts are covered fully in the keyboard part, which may be played on piano, synth, or organ.
